The city of St. Francis
Famous as the birthplace of St. Francis and St. Clare, the medieval city of Assisi is rich in artistic monuments and located in the heart of the Mt. Subasio Natural Park, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
To explore Assisi, it’s best to start at the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, built in 1228 and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there you can visit the Basilica of St. Clare, also from the 1200s and built in Gothic style architecture.
After having visited Assisi’s many churches, we recommend taking a few minutes to see the Temple of Minerva, an ancient Roman temple from the first century B.C.
It has been restructured through the centuries and today stands renovated in perfect baroque style.
